Red Sandalwood (Pterocarpus santalinus) is one of India’s most valuable exotic hardwoods, highly prized for its rich red heartwood, medicinal uses, and global demand. Cultivated mainly in the dry regions of Andhra Pradesh, red sandalwood plantation has become a preferred long-term investment due to its high market value, low-maintenance nature, and strong growth even in drought-prone areas. The trees take around 10–15 years to mature, during which they naturally develop dense, premium-quality heartwood that commands exceptional prices in international markets. Red sandalwood is widely used in Ayurveda, cosmetics, luxury woodcraft, and natural dye industries, making it a sustainable and future-focused agricultural venture. While plantation on private farmland is permitted, harvesting and selling must follow government regulations to ensure legal and transparent trade.
